PLEASE NOTE: When saving the file to your hard drive you must create a new file name for the application that you’ve downloaded. For instance: "yourname_teacher_application.pdf" or "yourname_staff_application.pdf."

Once you have saved the file to your hard drive with the new file name please fill it out completely.

Organizational Mission:
Ifetayo's mission is to prepare young people and their families for all aspects of their lives through comprehensive and holistic programs that help to empower them to become self-sufficient and, productive adults who are actively engaged in the improvement of their communities. This mission is carried out as we work to achieve the five primary objectives of the organization which are:

  1. to develop cultural awareness and self-esteem by exposing youth and families to traditional African artistic forms and their evolution into contemporary cultures;
  2. to provide youth, families and communities of African descent with the tools required to become self-sufficient and to transcend challenges that are perpetuated across generations;
  3. to support youth, families and communities of African descent to reach their optimum potential by attaining a harmonious balance between the mind, body, and spirit and through proper nutrition, exercise, and cultural awareness;
  4. to create leaders for local neighborhoods and international communities, and
  5. to develop, document and disseminate a comprehensive, African-centered approach to youth and community development.

Position Description: The Senior Accountant will be responsible for day to day fiscal operations, of the organization's 1 million dollar budget. Duties entail bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, preparation of financial statements, payroll, accounts payable and receivables. Assist and/or supervise other staff with special projects.

Key Responsibilities:
Essential duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain the accounting system using fund-ez accounting software. The Senior Accountant is responsible for the entire computerized accounting process including disbursements, receipts, journal entries, invoices, and financial reporting
  • Voucher to government agencies and foundations
  • Monitor and implement good internal control to ensure that company assets are safeguarded. Must review and update policies as needed (not less than annually)
  • Produce monthly management reports to monitor financial health of the organization
  • Responsible for the entire audit process with our external auditor, and any governmental audits
  • Work with President/CEO in the preparation of annual operating budgets and ensure that budgets are followed. Must produce monthly budget variance reports to monitor compliance to approved budgets
  • Responsible for the development and periodic review of policy and procedure manual for the Accounting Department
  • Participate in regularly held management meetings to coordinated policies and procedures among various departments and to assist in planning for the growth of the company
  • Provide support for all departments and answer employee questions regarding accounting issues.
  • Additional duties will be added at the discretion of the President/CEO

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science/Arts in accounting
  • Five years of accounting experience in nonprofit accounting
  • Experience working with independent auditors
  • Excellent skills with Fund EZ, Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as accessing the internet and other computer knowledge
  • Knowledgeable in preparation of budgets and management reports
  • Understand accounting from original entry (invoice) to the financial statements
  • Experience in vouchering to funders
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Demonstration of ability to well work with others
  • Detail oriented
